Finding fulfillment

Your Reflection

I’m a stay at home mom of 3 daughters ages 8,6,2. I homeschool them. I’m 35. My husband and I own a gym (although I don’t work alongside him anymore since homeschooling). Our finances are very tight each month causing a huge burden on my husband. He’s working multiple jobs to try and support us. I’m wrestling whether I should go back to school for nursing so I can work part time to help support our family. Is this selfish? Is this biblical? Or am perhaps I don’t want to support so much as maybe I’m longing for something outside of motherhood and homemaking that’s my own and gives me more fulfillment. Is this a sinful desire?

TFJ's Insight

Insight/Reflection: Dear sister, I hear your heart’s cry for fulfillment and the desire to contribute to your family’s finances. It’s not selfish to want to pursue a career that brings you joy and purpose. Remember that God created you with unique gifts and talents, and He can use them for His glory in various ways, including through nursing.

Verse to Memorize: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” – Proverbs 3:5-6

Application: Trusting in God’s plan for your life, seek His guidance and wisdom as you discern whether to pursue nursing. Surrender your desires and fears to Him, knowing that He will lead you on the path that aligns with His will.

Verse to Uphold: “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” – Jeremiah 29:11

Application: God has a purpose for your life, and He will provide for your family’s needs as you lean on Him. Trust in His promises and have faith that He will guide you towards a fulfilling career path.

Verse to Seek: “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” – Matthew 6:33

Application: Prioritize seeking God’s kingdom above all else, and He will provide for your family’s needs, including financial support. Trust that He sees your heart and will guide you towards the best path for you and your loved ones.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I lift up this dear sister to you, knowing that you see her heart’s desires and struggles. Grant her wisdom and clarity as she discerns the path ahead, and fill her with peace as she seeks to fulfill her roles as a mother, wife, and potentially a nurse. May she trust in Your plan for her life and find fulfillment in serving You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
